Senior Blues Meeting Details: October 2025
The next Senior Blues meeting will take place at 10:30 on the first Friday of October!
When – Friday October 3rd – 10.30 am
Where – The Blues Bar, Chester FC
Guest Speakers – Wes Kilgannon, Junior Lead, CFC Academy; Ollie Hill, CFU Board Member; Prof Tim Grady, University of Chester.
In a somewhat more sombre topic than Frank Rothwell’s tales of rowing the Atlantic last month, Professor Grady will talk on “The Enemy War Dead in Two World Wars: Britain and Germany”.
In the two world wars, thousands of enemy soldiers and civilians died on British soil. Today, the only real sign of these men is in the German Military Cemetery on Cannock Chase. Yet, for decades their graves and memorials enjoyed a much greater presence in the memory of the world wars.
Tim will explore the largely forgotten history of the German war dead and uncover a complicated history of remembering and forgetting. The talk dovetails with a recent Senior Blues visit to Cannock Chase.
For anyone still unaware of the Senior Blues, we have been meeting on the first Friday of the month, August to May, for almost fifteen years under the Chairmanship of the redoubtable Chris Courtenay Williams.
Guest speakers talk on a wide range of topics, and we always have updates from a CFU Board member.
Memberships for this season are now into the 80’s (like a good number of us) and new members are welcome to join at any meeting. And it’s still a meagre £10, or a quid a meeting. And all your quids, along with proceeds from the raffle, tea, coffee, and merchandise sales, are for the benefit of the Academy, via the Senior Blues Youth Foundation.
