TAD1609 Charlie Caton

    Tadcaster Albion 1-3 Chester

Chester staged an excellent second half fightback to advance in the FA Cup against Tadcaster Albion.

Kieran Greenway’s 20 minute strike ensured the ‘cupset’ was on, but goals in the second 45 from Iwan Murray, Harrison Burke and Charlie Caton ensured the Blues progressed.

Calum McIntyre made four changes from the win over Blyth Spartans. In came Joel Taylor, George Glendon, Adam Thomas and Burke.

Kieran Coates, Matty Williams and Connor Evans all dropped to the seven-man bench – with Kevin Roberts a late withdrawal due to injury.

Tadcaster looked to soak up Chester pressure through the game and then strike quickly on the counter – and their plan worked to perfection to open the scoring.

Joe Crosby did excellently to charge forward after a misplaced pass, playing the ball through for Greenway to coolly dispatch beyond Wyll Stanway.

The hosts took their shock lead into the break, as the Blues wasted two good openings. First, Caton headed inches wide from Thomas’ cross – before an even better opportunity was missed as Murray skied in front of goal following Tom Sparrow’s cutback.

But Murray corrected his error with a superb leveller on 49 minutes. Sparrow gave him the ball at an awkward height, but the midfielder superbly chested and cut inside before smashing the ball into the roof of the net.

Chester continued to dominate as Caton and Burke both went close, before a warning was sent at the other end. Oliver Norman pounced on a loose Glendon pass but could only fire straight at Stanway.

Just as the game looked to be fading towards a Tuesday night replay, Burke struck with six to play.

Murray was provider this time – as his corner met the head of the Blues academy graduate who powered a header beyond Chris Elliott.

And there was time for the Seals to wrap it all up in the 89th minute, as a Tadcaster defender headed back a Weeks clipped pass but there was Caton to control and fire into the corner to ensure the Blues made it back-to-back wins.
