TEAM OF THE DECADE | Sean McConville joins the midfield!
Perhaps not renowned as a central midfielder through his career, Sean McConville has been drafted in to join Antoni Sarcevic in the midfield in our voted side.
The intelligent attacking player was instrumental during his one and only season at Chester FC.
Recruited from Stalybridge Celtic as the Blues were preparing to face life in the Conference North – only a few days before their reprieve – instead the exciting McConville would get a crack in the fifth tier at the Deva.
He was a critical part of the 2014-15 side that finished in our highest league position in the National League since reformation, got to the Second Round of the FA Cup and also beat Wrexham.
11 goals from in 41 appearances speaks for itself, as well as what we would imagine was a double figure tally of assists too. McConville was instrumental as a link up player in the systems Steve Burr would adopt as Blues boss.
In June 2015, Accrington Stanley snapped him up for an undisclosed sum from the Blues, and he was part of John Coleman’s side that won promotion to League One in 2017-18; Sean pitching in with 13 goals that term.
He remains in the third tier to this date, and despite only spending one season with the Blues, he has certainly made a lasting impression thanks to his talents.
