The Grenville Millington Legends Lounge

We are proud to announce that the Legends Lounge has been renamed in honour of the late, great Grenville Millington.

Having had an association with the Blues of more than half a century as a Player, Coach, Director, Chairman and Volunteer, the Hospitality Lounge will now be renamed in Grenville’s memory – having served as Matchday Host upstairs in recent seasons.

Grenville made more than 300 appearances as a player, and post-retirement he also represented the club as a Goalkeeper Coach, President of the Former Players’ Association, and as part of the CFU Board. He was our first inductee into the Hall of Fame and also an Honorary Life Vice-President.

The decision to rename the lounge after Grenville was given full blessing from the Talbot family, with the great Gary Talbot still having his Hall of Fame legacy honoured with the Main Stand and the Golden Boot award both named in his memory.

Members of both Grenville and Gary’s family were present yesterday at the Deva Stadium to open the Grenville Millington Legends Lounge.

General Manager Albert Davies said: “It feels like a fitting tribute to rename the Legends Lounge in Grenville’s memory.

“We all wanted to provide a suitable way to remember such a great man who will forever be etched into our history. Grenville did so much for our club in so many different capacities.

“In recent years, the feedback from guests and sponsors inside the lounge on matchdays was always so positive about what a vibrant and passionate host Grenville was, he made games in the lounge that extra bit special. Grenville’s charisma – and his poem! – will always be remembered fondly by all of us.

“Thank you to everyone around the club who has been so supportive of this news, but also to Chris and the whole Talbot family for also giving us their blessing. Gary Talbot and Grenville Millington are both Chester legends and will never, ever be forgotten.”

On behalf of the Millington family – Linda, Marcus, Daniel and Antony said: “This is a touching tribute to a legendary Chester Blue.

“We feel honoured that Grenville, cherished husband, father, and grandfather, will always be remembered for his devotion to his beloved Chester Football Club.

“We are very proud and grateful for this heartfelt recognition in his memory.”

Also speaking on behalf of the Talbot family, Christine Talbot said: “Grenville wasn’t just a great mate of Gary’s from their playing days – he was a treasured friend to our whole family.

“Knowing that The Legends Lounge is now in the hands of the Millington family is something Gary would have been deeply proud of.”
