The King is Home. Kurt Willoughby returns to Chester FC!
Chester Football Club are thrilled to announce the return of Kurt Willoughby on a season-long loan from Oldham Athletic!
The 27-year-old fan favourite comes back for a second spell at the Deva Stadium to bolster Calum McIntyre’s forward line for the 2024/25 campaign.
‘King Kurt’ first arrived down CH1 in the summer of 2022 and was a huge hit in his solo season with the Blues.
Willoughby scored 27 goals in 52 appearances as we finished 3rd, winning the Gary Talbot Golden Boot and the Goal of the Season – as well as being recognised in the Vanarama National League North Team of the Season.
Kurt joined National League side Oldham 13 months ago and made 17 appearances for the Latics last term.
He ended the season on loan at Scottish Championship side Ayr United – scoring three times in eleven appearances.
Manager Calum McIntyre said: “I’m sure I speak for everyone at Chester Football Club when I say I am delighted to see Kurt back at the club.
“His record during his time with us was formidable and he has a terrific relationship with our fans. We are really pleased to have got this done.
“It is something we have looked to do for some time but ultimately it has only come to fruition over the last few days. We have spoke at length about being patient with our really targeted recruitment and this is the best example of that.
“Finally, I would like to directly congratulate our supporters for their efforts in delivering the funds to make this summer’s recruitment possible.
“The positive signings we have made are directly as a result of the pledges to Boost The Budget, Season Ticket Sales and particularly the pleasing attendances at this season’s preseason fixtures.
“YOU have made this happen and your support is immensely appreciated. Please continue to support this.
“We can do this, but only with the togetherness that is unrivalled at our club. Up the Seals.”
Full interviews with Calum and also Kurt will be available tomorrow on The Seals Podcast.
Welcome home, King Kurt!
