Welcome to Chester FC, Andrew Wogan!
Chester FC can announce the signing of goalkeeper Andrew Wogan from Stockport County on an emergency loan following an injury to Lewys Benjamin.
The 19-year-old joins with a bright reputation at the League One Hatters, who signed Andrew for an undisclosed fee in the summer of 2024 on a four-year deal from Drogheda United.
Despite his young age, Andrew has already gained significant experience during his time in the Republic of Ireland, establishing himself as Drogheda’s number one goalkeeper at the age of just 17 and made more than 40 appearances for the club in all competitions.
From Louth, Wogan brings National League North experience to the Deva after a two-month loan stint at Marine earlier this year.
The shot-stopper impressed with the Mariners, keeping six clean sheets in his first nine appearances as Neil Young’s side dragged themselves away from the relegation zone.
Calum McIntyre spoke after the deal was completed: “It’s real bad luck to lose Lewys for a period of time after just one game,” he said.
“He had a problem heading into last week’s game and it has been aggravated. This type of situation can arise with a first-choice goalkeeper whether they are a loanee or with us permanently.
“We have had to react really quickly and it isn’t as straight forward a scenario in acquiring a replacement as it may seem from the outside.
“We’ve acted really quickly to ensure we have ourselves covered for the two games this week. I would like to pass thanks on to everyone at Stockport County for their assistance, particularly Dave Challinor and their goalkeeping department.”
Welcome to CH1, Andrew!
