Welcome to Chester FC, Connor Woods!

Chester FC are thrilled to announce the signing of Connor Woods from Warrington Town!

The 26-year-old forward has signed a two-and-a-half-year deal with the Blues, keeping him with the club until summer 2027, for a transfer fee of £12,500.

Despite significant interest in Woods, who is Warrington’s top scorer this campaign, the attacker has opted to sign down CH1 and will be available for selection for tomorrow’s trip to Leamington.

“He is a dynamic, energetic forward that can both score and create goals. He strengthens us at a vital time of the season.”

Town paid a club record transfer fee to sign Woods on a permanent deal from Southport in March 2023 after a hugely impressive loan spell at the club.

He then helped Warrington gain promotion to the National League North, scoring nine times in 22 appearances, before netting 14 times last term. Woods has scored 29 goals in 92 appearances for Warrington in all competitions.

Blues boss Calum McIntyre said: “I’m really pleased to have got Connor on board. The number of clubs that wanted his signature speaks volumes about highly rated he is, and we are delighted that he has turned down better financial offers elsewhere to be a part of what we are doing at Chester.

“He is a dynamic, energetic forward that can both score and create goals. He strengthens us at a vital time of the season.

“It is the first time we have paid a fee for a player in my time here and we feel it is a good investment. This is the second time Connor has been the subject of a transfer fee and we feel we have got him at a great time for him to kick on and become and even better player.

“We have been able to get this deal done due to the way we continue to manage and maximise what we can get from our playing budget. We have struck a great deal and we can’t wait to get Connor out on the pitch.

“We want to continue to add to the group this month and we are working harder than ever before to make things happen. I need our supporters to keep doing what they do, supporting the team and making our new faces feel at home at this magnificent football club.

“We want to get promoted and this shows our ambition.”

CFU Vice-Chair Jim Green said: “Connor is a proven performer who creates and scores goals, and someone we consider has his best football ahead of him.

“We have worked diligently to create headroom within our budget to bring Connor to our club. The fee reflects the fact we have added one of the most sought after forwards in the division, but is some way below his release clause and has been structured prudently.

“Connor demonstrated a real desire to play for Chester and we are delighted to have him on board. The transfer strengthens the team in the here and now, but also represents an investment in a player we believe can help us achieve our ambitions for the future.”

    Welcome to CH1, Connor!
