Welcome to Chester FC, James Jones!
Chester FC are delighted to announce the signing of James Jones from National League side Altrincham.
The central defender has put pen to paper on a one-year-deal with the Blues, subject to FA and National League approval, and becomes Calum McIntyre’s second new addition to the squad for the 2025/26 season alongside fellow defender Tom Leak.
Jones has been an integral cog in Altrincham’s back line for the previous three seasons, and was named club captain in the summer of 2023.
The 28-year-old made 146 appearances for the Robins over two spells, the first between 2017-20 before another three year stretch since 2022.
Sandwiched in between those stints was a two year stay in the EFL with Barrow, where he featured on 54 occasions.
The Welshman started his career with The New Saints, prior to a switch to English football in 2017.
Jones was delighted after he sealed a move to CH1: “I’m absolutely made up,” he said.
“I left Altrincham a couple of weeks ago and after looking at the clubs I could join, Chester was at the top of the list.
“In the past eight years I have played for Barrow and Altrincham, so Chester is the biggest club I have played for.
“Although I am coming down a level, I know the size of this football club. It’s in a division it shouldn’t be in.”
