Welcome to Chester FC, Lewis Leigh!
Chester FC are delighted to announce the signing of midfielder Lewis Leigh on a deal until the end of 2025/26!
The 21-year-old will look to bolster the Blues’ midfield unit with quality and tenacity ahead of our upcoming fixture schedule.
Despite his young age, Leigh has a wealth of experience at a number of clubs, with most of his appearances to date coming in the EFL.
Lewis broke through at Preston North End, featuring once in the Championship and three times in the EFL Cup for the Lilywhites before his departure in the summer of 2024.
Whilst at Deepdale, the midfielder had loan stints at both Bromley and Crewe Alexandra, making an appearance at Wembley with the latter in the League Two play-off final against Crawley Town in 2024.
He then made the switch back to Hayes Lane for the Ravens’ maiden season in the EFL, registering 17 league appearances and scoring once, before a loan spell at FC Halifax Town from March until the end of the campaign.
Blues boss Calum McIntyre was pleased with his new addition: “Lewis adds to our midfield ranks at a time where we are looking to strengthen the group,” he said.
“He is a quality technician that can do the other side of the game. He has good experience in the EFL and the National League, and increases and improves our options in central midfield areas.”
“We want to be able to add quality and improve the squad as and when opportunities arise, and this is a prime example of that.
“I am really looking forward to working with him.”
Lewis also spoke following his move to CH1: “I’m absolutely buzzing – It’s such a big football club and I feel we can do big things together,” he said.
“I would describe myself as a technical player who likes to get on the ball but also likes putting a tackle in.
“The experience I already have is massive for me, it’s always important to have spent a lot of time within men’s football.
“I can’t wait to get more games under my belt and I want to get promoted – That is the main goal.”
