YOUTH REPORT | Chester FC Under 19’s 7-0 Alfreton Town Under 19’s

Chester FC’s Scholars stretched their unbeaten run in the National League Alliance North Division on Wednesday afternoon with a huge victory over Alfreton.

Calum McIntyre’s side made it 23 points from their first nine matches, notching up their biggest win of the league campaign thus far at Vauxhall Motors.

Despite dominating the half in blustery conditions, the Blues squandered some big chances early on. Leo Young drove forward from left back and shot just wide with a low effort from distance – before moments later Will Goodwin was well denied one-on-one by the keeper before Sam Turner’s follow up was bravely blocked.

Goodwin then went through once more as a long ball forward caught the wind. He read the conditions well to latch on to the pass but his sidefooted effort inside the box was kicked away by the Alfreton stopper.

However, an incredible four goals in ten minutes before the break took the game away from the Reds in style.

First, Jake Hampson’s free kick from 20 yards was pushed out to George Woodburn who slotted home the rebound.

Just a couple of minutes later Hampson was provider again – his superb whipped corner was glanced into the bottom corner by Turner.

Regan Rubin, after missing a couple of chances early on, then made amends in style with a rasping drive from 20 yards which left the keeper with no chance. Then three became four as Hampson completed a hat-trick of assists when his high ball in from the byline was volleyed home by Goodwin.

Chester continued to be relentless after the break, Rubin missing the chance of a brace when his windswept shot flew over the bar. However, he got his second and Chester’s fifth just six minutes later inside the box. His first opportunity was blocked, before lashing home at the second attempt.

Hampson’s excellent performance was capped with a goal – the provider getting one of his own and in some style. The number seven took a touch and then lashed a fierce effort from 30 yards which swirled beyond the keeper and landed in the top half of the net.

The performance was capped off in style by Hampson, scoring his second after it was laid on a plate following impressive work by substitute Stuart Crilly.

“Every week they manage to add another level of excitement to the end of the season with so much to play for. I couldn’t be more proudof them and their continued improvement week after week.

“Our centre forwards have been magnificent all season but we continue to see the individuals in our group kick on.

“Jake Hampson’s numbers are phenomenal and yesterday illustrates that. We have a midfielder scoring a brace, assisting four and looking such a threat from dead balls.

“George Woodburn has been tremendous again. We have got him fit and firing again and I am delighted to see his progress.

“They are a smashing group and it’s terrific for us that each week we are singing the praises of different names as they continue to commit to their success. I’m delighted for them all each week, I really am.”
