FORMER PLAYERS | Grenville is new President of the FPA

Grenville Millington has been elected the new President of the Chester Former Players Association. He succeeds the late Gary Talbot who passed away in December.

Grenville was invited to accept the role at a meeting of the FPA committee. He said: ‘I am honoured to be offered the post of President but I am accepting it with a very heavy heart. We are all still grieving for the loss of Gary; he will be a hard act to follow and I would much prefer him still to be here with us’.

The former Blues goalkeeper made over 300 appearances for the club, making his debut in 1969 in the match that also saw Gary Talbot’s final appearance. He was the first former player to be inducted into the club’s Hall of Fame, was a founding member of the Former Players Association, and has also served as director and chairman of Chester FC.

Chair of the Former Players Association Alan Tarbuck said: ‘Grenville is respected throughout the club and the city for his wholehearted commitment. I am delighted that he has accepted our invitation to be our new President at this difficult time. I know that Gary would have approved wholeheartedly’.
