CFCW REPORT: Altrincham 2-4 Chester

Chester secured an important three points on the road, as two late goals sealed a dramatic victory at Altrincham.

The Blues got off to the best possible start, with last seasons top scorer Molly Wood opening her account for 23/24 with a stunning 30-year effort to give the visitors the lead.

Altrincham levelled it up on 18 minutes with an accurate strike from a tight angle, before Martin Fitzsimons’ side almost responded instantly, Emma Gray seeing her effort curl inches wide.

They were however back in front just prior to the half hour mark – Wood the provider this time – as her corner was met and finished off by Lucy Adderley.

The hosts would equalise on 58 minutes with a header of their own, before Chester lay siege in search of a second half winner.

Gray and Wood both had two efforts each which failed to find the net as the game looked to be heading towards a draw. However, sub Ellie Bradley tapped home with just four minutes to play to put the Blues back in front for a third time in the game.

Rach Lloyd would then seal the three points moments later, lobbing the goalkeeper to ensure the Blues stay six points behind the early joint leaders in Wythenshawe and St Helens.
