CFCW REPORT: Warrington Town 1-4 Chester

Chester advanced into the Third Qualifying Round of the Women’s FA Cup with a fantastic performance at Warrington Town.

The Blues were in control from minute one, and struck the crossbar three times before their 22nd minute opener.

First it was Rach Lloyd who smashed the woodwork with a 30 yard free kick early on, before Molly Wood’s curler hit almost the same spot moments later.

On the third occasion the Seals hit the frame of the goal, Lloyd with it once again, this time Emma Gray was on hand to head the rebound home and give Martin Fitzsimons’ side the lead.

One very quickly became two on 28 minutes as a brilliantly worked corner saw Wood fire home from Lloyd’s sweeping corner.

Chester were in control and had chances through Wood to extend the lead in the second half, before Warrington then got a goal back with twenty minutes to play, setting up what was a nervy finish.

Those nerves however were gone and the tie was put to bed in the final minute of normal time, a sublime back heel from Sarah Redman set Wood away who scored at the second attempt to make it 3-1.

The icing on the cake came in the final minute of stoppage time as Wood was wiped out inside the box. She stepped up to convert the penalty, complete her hat-trick, and see Chester advance into the final round of qualifying.
