PREVIEW | Chester v Dagenham & Redbridge
Marcus Bignot’s Blues face yet another London side this weekend – with Dagenham and Redbridge the visitors to the Swansway Chester Stadium.
Live on BT Sport, Chester’s encounter with the Daggers gets underway at the slightly earlier time of 12.30pm – and is the second game to be broadcast live this season at the ground.
Chester picked up a point last time out, coming away from east London with a share of the spoils after Jobi McAnuff bagged Leyton Orient’s equaliser on Tuesday evening.
Macauley Bonne had put the home side ahead – before James Akintunde responded moments later. A free-kick beyond Sam Sargeant by Ross Hannah sent the Blues into the lead at the break, but McAnuff’s leveller was enough to earn 10-man Orient a point.
Dagenham overcame promotion contenders Dover Athletic by breaking their 10-game unbeaten run with a 1-0 win on Tuesday evening.
Morgan Ferrier bagged the only goal of the game before the interval for the home side, who currently sit fifth in the National League.
HISTORY BOOKS
Chester’s last victory at home to the Daggers was a 3-0 win last season – with goals from Elliott Durrell, Tom Shaw and James Alabi securing all three points for Jon McCarthy’s side.
Many fans (unfortunately) may remember the 6-2 defeat back in 2008 at Victoria Road.
Currently at Eastleigh, striker Ben Strevens opened the scoring on 13 minutes and Anwar Uddin doubled the lead two minutes later with header before Dave Rainford added the third.
Kevin Roberts added a goal for Chester on 50 minutes. And then Strevens hit a fine volley on the hour and Jon Nurse headed in the fifth on 83 minutes. John Murphy netted merely a consolation for Chester before Ryan Hall’s late strike.
ONE TO WATCH
Morgan Ferrier – striker
As mentioned above, Ferrier has been an attacking threat all season. Scratch that, for the last TWO seasons.
A battle with Sam Hughes lead both players to shake hands before the 23-year old’s substitution on the final day of the last campaign, when the striker played for Boreham Wood.
Ferrier always proves to be a handful for every defence he comes up against, and the Blues will be certain to have the player man marked this Saturday afternoon.
With seven goals to his name this season, the former Arsenal and Crystal Palace man will prove a tough player to handle.
