MATCH REPORT | Southport 0-0 Chester
A scrappy goalless affair at Haig Avenue this afternoon means the two sides will meet again on Tuesday in an FA Trophy replay.
The Blues made one change from defeat at Leamington last weekend – as Academy Graduate Matty Thomson made his first start since FA Cup defeat at Dunston UTS.
It was a quiet opening 45 – with four yellow cards brandished but little goalmouth action.
Perhaps the biggest chance of the half came to the Blues and Anthony Dudley. A long ball forward was flicked on for the Salford loanee forward, who brilliantly spun beyond Dean Winnard but stabbed his shot inches wide of the far post.
In the second half, the hosts had chances through Devarn Green and Dion Charles – the latter denied by a super one handed stop by Grant Shenton; but the Blues held firm at the back.
Late on, Dan Mooney curled one over in a game that was seemingly destined to end goalless. That was the case, and the two sides meet again on Tuesday (7.45pm kick off).
