YOUTH | Young Blues travel to Dover Athletic today!
Chester FC’s Academy side travel all the way down to Faversham today to face Dover Athletic – looking for more glory.
Calum McIntyre’s side brilliantly captured the National League Alliance Division J title last month after a 6-0 win at the Swansway Chester Stadium against Stockport County. The winners of each Alliance Division across the country now all enter a competition to crown the ‘Champion of Champions’.
The Young Blues received a bye in the first round – while Dover beat Tamworth 4-2 to set up this Quarter Final tie.
Academy Head Coach Calum McIntyre told Cheshire Live: “It’s a typical Chester cup draw. We have have been drawn as the away team in fifteen of our last nineteen cup draws at Youth level so we’re really good at travelling. We’ve done Romford, Hartlepool and even Poland in the last 18 months or so. It poses it’s challenges but it’s my job to find ways to overcome that and we’ve done that thanks to some magnificent offers of help and support.
“It’s obviously been an intense season for us and we’ve played a serious amount of games. We’ve had some great moments in the Youth Cup, a brilliant league season and we want to add a national accolade to the list of achievements. We know how tough it will be, we’ve lost Lloyd Marsh-Hughes as everyone knows but we will be without Cain Noble and Iwan Murray too.
“That gives a huge opportunity for some of our youngsters to step up. Will Goodwin, Tom Ruffer and Danny Edwards were all on the scoresheet with big goals in the Youth Cup and are more than ready to step up again with the older lads. Dover are an impressive outfit and an entire division above us at senior level, they have an outstanding programme and have an incredible unbeaten record over the past two seasons at this level. However, I know another group of lads that have a similar record and will be looking to show the best version of themselves come Wednesday evening.”
We will have very special live updates from the game on www.twitter.com/chesterfc – stay tuned!
