BREAKING | Josh Askew joins Chester FC!

Chester FC are delighted to announce the signing of Josh Askew initially on a non-contract basis.

Askew arrives at the Deva from National League North rivals Boston United, after the Blues issued seven days’ notice of approach last week.

The highly rated left-back links up with Joint Managers Anthony Johnson and Bernard Morley for another spell – having been a part of their National League North title winning side at Salford City back in 2018.

22-year-old Askew was on loan at Curzon Ashton from the Ammies last term and came through the ranks at Blackburn Rovers.

Josh made his first league appearance for Boston last week in their away win at Blyth, and immediately caught the eye with an impressive performance.

Due to registration deadlines, Josh is unable to feature for the Blues this evening in our FA Trophy tie.

The Blues bosses were thrilled to reunite with Josh.

Speaking to ChesterFC.com, Jonno had this to say on the signing: “We’re absolutely thrilled that we’ve managed to sign Josh.

“When Joel left there was only ever two players on a list that we’d have taken as a replacement, the other being Matty Waters obviously.

“Josh is someone we’ve worked with in the past at Salford and is another player that has the experience of winning this league.

“In terms of profile he fits exactly what we look for in a player: young, hungry and full of determination to want to play for Chester.

“He totally understands the predicament the club is in at the minute and has actually offered to play for FREE until we’re in a position to offer him something more concrete.

    “You’ll all love him!”

    Welcome to Chester FC, Josh!
