BREAKING | Rhys Hughes joins on loan from Tranmere

Chester FC are pleased to announce the loan signing of midfielder Rhys Hughes!

The 21-year-old joins us for an initial 28-day period from League Two side Tranmere Rovers.

Hughes began his career with Everton before joining Rovers last summer. He has been a regular in their EFL matchday squads this term, making nine league appearances in the process.

Rhys has contributed one goal, an excellent strike against Leeds United in the EFL Trophy, which was named as Tranmere’s Goal of the Month for October.

He has been capped ten times for Wales at U21 level and will be available for selection for Saturday’s game at home to Peterborough Sports.

Manager Calum McIntyre said: “Rhys will add something we feel we are missing in the midfield area.

“He has proven quality given his impressive pedigree and we feel his addition will allow us to become even more progressive with the ball.

“We have had a host on injuries in central midfield areas this season. To have lost George Glendon for the season was a huge blow as was losing Dec Weeks for nearly two months.

“We feel Rhys strengthens us in this position and we thank Micky Mellon and the staff at Tranmere for getting this in place.”

    Welcome to Chester FC, Rhys!
