BREAKING | Welcome back to Chester FC, Iwan Murray!

Chester FC are pleased to announce the signing of Iwan Murray from Runcorn Linnets.

The 21-year-old attacking midfielder returns to the club for a second spell, having graduated from the Blues Youth Academy back in 2018.

Iwan made ten starts at the Deva in his two seasons, scoring three goals. The Welshman moved on to the Linnets in the summer of 2020.

He had a hugely successful time at the APEC Taxis Stadium, leaving with an impressive record of 25 goals in 61 games for the club.

Last term, Murray and Runcorn Linnets reached the Northern Premier Division One North (West) Play Off Final – with the dynamic midfielder winning the Young Supporters Player of the Year Award; as well as winning Goal of the Season for his stunning strike against Leek Town.

Manager Calum McIntyre said: “I’m really pleased to be able to bring Iwan back to Chester.

“He’s a player I have obviously worked with at both youth level and at Runcorn and regardless of his positive history with our club, he fits the bill in terms of recruiting young talent that has impressed in the lower leagues.

“His numbers at Runcorn make this move an absolute no brainer for us and Iwan has turned down more money elsewhere to pursue this opportunity.

“I make no secret that I am pleased to see some faces returning to the club, players with a genuine affection for the club and those that feel they have a point to prove during the season ahead.”

After putting pen to paper, Iwan said: “I’m so happy to be coming back to Chester, this is a special club and one that I love and loved being a part of.

“I never wanted to leave and being released from a club I thought so much of was a really tough period for me.

“I wanted to make sure that I had the opportunity to play games week in, week out and I have developed in so many ways over the last two seasons. I had the chance to get back into this league last summer but I didn’t feel it was the right opportunity, whereas this really does.

“I feel a much better player than when I left and I want to prove that. I have something to prove at this level and at Chester and I can’t wait to do that this season.”

    Welcome back, Iwan!
