CFCW REPORT: Chester 3-0 Northwich Vixens

Chester made it nine straight leagues wins and cut the gap at the top of the table to just three points with a convincing win over Northwich Vixens in front of a record crowd.

In front of a gate of 259, which broke the previous record of 240 set back in September 2022, the Blues dominated from start to finish and could have won by more than the three they scored.

Evie Halliwell curled inches wide, before Sarah Redman saw her effort tipped on to the post, both inside the first five minutes.

Then Molly Wood saw her attempt touched on to the crossbar by the Vixens number one, before Redman opened the scoring on the quarter of an hour mark with a looping header.

Wood then hit the post as the half hour mark approached, but got her landmark 30th of the campaign on 40 minutes, driving the ball into the roof of the net to double the advantage going into the break.

Chester’s top scorer made it 31 and counting just after the half time interval too, converting from inside the box.

Martin Fiztsimons’ side could have added more; Halliwell was the next to hit the post – the fourth time in the game – before the ‘keeper denied subs Emma Gray and Emily Jones.

Wythenshawe’s defeat at St Helens cuts the gap to just three points at the top, as the Blues now turn their focus to the cup on Sunday as they host Preston North End at the Leap76 Stadium.
