FA Cup Preview: York City (a)

The Blues and the Minstermen do battle once more in the FA Cup First Round this midweek at the LNER Community Stadium.

A goalless draw ten days prior ended Chester’s winning run, but they put in a positive performance and had chances to win the tie late on as they finished the stronger.

It was a fifth successive clean sheet, but that run came to an abrupt end on Saturday in the 3-2 loss at Darlington.

Tom Peers was sent off and will be suspended in the league, but once again also misses out in this game due to being cup tied. New recruit Christian Norton is also ineligible as he was not available for the initial tie.

Winners of First Round ties take home £41,000 at this stage of the competition in prize money – and will also earn a further £60,000 for being shown on BBC Two at home to Wigan in Round Two on Friday 1st December.

    THE OPPOSITION

Neal Ardley’s side had a more positive weekend, winning 2-0 at AFC Fylde to move out of the drop zone.

First half strikes from Scott Burgess and Ryan Fallowfield secured a first league win in five for York, giving them a timely confidence boost coming into the fixture.
