Martin Fitzsimons departs Chester FC Women
Chester FC Women can confirm Martin Fitzsimons has departed the Blues after accepting a position at another club.
Having been appointed as First Team Manager in 2019, Fitzsimons oversaw an exciting period of growth for the women’s section, including the move to the Deva Stadium last summer.
The 2023/24 season saw them achieve a fourth place finish and reach the Women’s FA Cup Third Qualifying Round, bowing out to former finalists Leeds United.
Martin moves on with our best wishes to pursue a new opportunity and a further update on the role of First Team Manager of Chester FC Women will be made in due course.
“We’d like to thank Martin for his hard work and dedication to the role, and the contribution he’s made to the football club over the past five years,” said Vice Chair, Jim Green.
“He’s played a key part in the growth and success of the women’s section in that time, and we wish him the very best with this new challenge.”
Martin had this to say following his departure: “I have loved every second of representing this club.
“As a Chester fan, having the opportunity to grow and develop a section of the club is something I’ve taken huge pride in and not taken lightly.
“There are so many memories that will stay with me for life. We’ve broken many attendance records, recorded a highest ever finish, and got further in the FA Cup than ever before.
“I know this group of players will continue in the same manner. However, the best of all is seeing a queue of kids waiting for pictures and autographs.
“My number one priority was to create a team for the future generations to look up and be proud. All thanks to the players who have achieved just that.
“Thanks to Jim and everyone at the club – especially all the amazing volunteers that are involved with the club. I wish everyone at the club all the best for the future.”
Thank you and all the very best, Martin!
