MATCH PREVIEW | Ashton United vs Chester

The Easter weekend signals the National League North season drawing rapidly to a close – as a Good Friday clash against Ashton United is posed to the Blues tomorrow afternoon.

The Blues on Saturday yielded a 2-2 draw against York City, much needed after being hit for six by Stockport the Tuesday prior. Bern and Jonno would have been pleased to see their changed side come from behind on two occasions to share the spoils.

George Waring grabbed his third for the Blues in place of the injured Akwasi Asante – all of Waring’s Chester goals have come at the Deva. Jamal Crawford made his debut from the bench and excited fans in his ten minute stint with bags of pace and direct running.

Six points behind AFC Telford with three games to go means a play-off place looks unlikely. Nevertheless, after the despair of the 2017-18 campaign, the building blocks have been put into place for an exciting future.

At the beginning of April, Chester’s late winner at Nuneaton relegated the Boro, and the Blues could prove to be the relegation villains again tomorrow. Ashton are four points behind Guiseley with three to play – so results elsewhere and a defeat to the Blues could send Ashton straight back down following last years promotion.

After such a wretched away run this term, the travelling yellows could make it three away wins on the bounce tomorrow. Let’s hope they do! Kick off is 3pm.
