MATCH REPORT | Chester 2-0 Trafford

Danny Elliott and Will Goodwin were both on target for the Blues this afternoon – scoring the goals in a training game victory over Trafford.

The match was split into three sections of 40 minutes against our Northern Premier Division One NW opponents.

Elliott struck at the end of the second period with a low finish – with teenager Goodwin heading home midway through the third 40.

There was early half chances at both ends in the First 40 – when firstly John Johnston released Danny Elliott, he cut on to his left foot but dragged a 20-yard effort wide of the mark on six minutes.

At the other end, Trafford also were off target from distance five minutes later. Elliott went close inside the box midway through the first 40, but again failed to hit the target.

Jon Worsnop was called into action on 27 minutes as a clipped ball over the top saw the Trafford forward one-on-one, but the Blues player/GK coach made a strong stop with his legs.

Moments before the end of the half, Elliott had another go at opening the scoring, spinning and firing inches wide following George Glendon’s clever clipped pass forwards.

Elliott was to go close yet again just past the 50 minute mark – he picked up the ball after good movement and pass from sub Anthony Dudley – before cutting inside and curling just over the bar.

Trafford then had two chances towards the conclusion of the second 40 – one a speculative effort from distance in an attempt to lob Worsnop which dropped wide of the post – before clipping the crossbar with a shot moments later.

But Elliott was to hit the target and open the scoring three minutes before the second interval – driving forward and sending a low shot from the edge of the box beyond the keeper into the bottom corner of the net.

Lloyd Marsh-Hughes was introduced at the start of the third 40, and had a go ten minutes in when he darted forward and jumped two challenges before his powerful effort from outside the box was beaten away by the goalkeeper.

Will Goodwin was also brought on at the same point – and had a half chance when he turned Trialist E’s corner over the top on 95 minutes.

But Goodwin made no mistake on 102 minutes – powering a header into the bottom corner from Trialist F’s accurate cross.

Kev Roberts, brought back on to play centre back in the third 40, almost made it three half an hour in, his fierce attempt cannoning back off the bar.

Everyone at Chester FC would like to thank Trafford FC for providing the opposition, and wish them the very best for the season.
