Peterborough Sports 1-1 Chester

A late penalty from Elliott Whitehouse ensured the Blues left Peterborough Sports with a Tuesday night point at PIMS Park.

In treacherous conditions, chances were few and far between before Josh McCammon curled home the opener on 73 minutes.

However, Whitehouse was clinical from the spot in the final minute of the 90 to ensure the spoils were shared.

Calum McIntyre made one change from the Banbury United draw as Ollie Heywood came in for Jid Okeke, and the wing back almost made it a dream start inside the opening minute as he was released by Declan Weeks but Peter Crook made the save.

Crook was worked again on nine minutes, getting down to push away a powerful effort from Tom Peers from the edge of the box.

Wyll Stanway was then worked twice in quick succession, denying Ben Fowkes and then McCammon – with Weeks having a shot cleared off the line inbetween.

Player/Joint Manager Michael Gash then struck the outside of the post from a corner midway through the first half.

Just before the break and again the home side went close as Dan Jarvis was denied by brave goalkeeping from Stanway, before Joel Taylor did well to clear the follow up from Fowkes off the line.

The second half was a more tight affair, with chances hard to come by as the pitch became more boggy. Just after the hour Whitehouse produced a cross from the right and Charlie Caton was unfortunate to see his looping header clip the crossbar.

However, the hosts then hit the front with time ticking down, as a cross from the left was chested down by Gash and precisely finished by McCammon.

But the Seals’ never say die attitude shone through and they got a penalty late on.

Weeks’ cross from a short corner was nodded against the post by Harrison Burke, and then Peers was fouled on the follow up and the Referee pointed to the spot.

Whitehouse stepped up and rolled the penalty into the back of the net to ensure it ended level.
