PRESS CALL | Marcus Bignot speaks ahead of Daggers trip

Here’s what the Blues boss had to say in his weekly press conference – as he faced questions from Dee 106.3, Chester Chronicle and Leader.

Marcus on…the last three games:

“If you go back as far as Woking, we’ve been in all three games. Saturday was a good performance and we got all three points, but on Tuesday anyone that saw the game would know Leyton Orient have very good individuals. We didn’t do enough to win the game but we didn’t deserve to lose the game. It was a performance I felt the fans appreciated.”

Marcus on…a change in the environment:

“I’ve spoken before – there has certainly been a hangover from previous seasons. I felt that in the squad but also on the terraces as well. I think the environment has changed now. With the financial news coming out I think there’s now a realism and an understanding towards the football club. I just felt there wasn’t a togetherness but I have really felt it now over the last two games. There was a perhaps a resentment, but we have had to manage the consequences of decisions made which were out of our control – but everyone has seen now and there is an understanding and appreciation.”

Marcus on…the players (and the 12th man!):

“They’ve been a credit to themselves because it hasn’t been ideal – but they’ve come through it. This squad is young, I know there is a responsibility on them to generate the support and getting them behind them but this is a young group. They need that support. Encouragement goes a long way – and the last two games have seen Managers talk about this ground and the support how I would have always imagined it.”

Marcus on…Dagenham away:

“It’s an opportunity for us to close the gap. A win on Saturday will put us in a good position and also take it into the Bromley game – I know what type of environment it will create. A positive result will lead into those home games. The business end really does begin soon. Three big key games coming up – if we can get a healthy points return there’s nine games to go and you can start doing the maths.”
