PREVIEW | Dag & Red v Chester

Chester travel down to East London this weekend to face Dagenham and Redbridge at Victoria Road.

The Blues will be aiming to bounce back from Tuesday’s narrow defeat to Leyton Orient, who have seen a resurgence in form since the turn of the new year.

John Still has seen several key changes his side in recent weeks. Scott Doe left the club in favour of a move to Whitehawk, whilst Sam Ling linked up with his father Martin at Leyton Orient, and Morgan Ferrier returned to Boreham Wood for an undisclosed fee. Corey Whitely also joined Ebbsfleet.

The Daggers’ convincing defeat of Torquay United down in the English Riviera last weekend was cancelled out by a 1-0 away loss at Dover on Tuesday evening. Ethan Pinnock fired an overhead kick to push Chris Kinnear’s side closer to the play off places.

Currently sitting in 11th place, Dag & Red started the season as title contenders, but now remain six points adrift of seventh place, and are winless at home since the beginning of January.

The Daggers were showing all of their title promise back in November when they visited the Swansway – winning 4-0 as all the goals came in a second half collapse by the Blues.

    What the Gaffer said

It’s an opportunity for us to close the gap. A win on Saturday will put us in a good position and also take it into the Bromley game – I know what type of environment it will create. A positive result will lead into those home games. The business end really does begin soon. Three big key games coming up – if we can get a healthy points return there’s nine games to go and you can start doing the maths.”

    One To Watch

    Michael Cheek – Striker

Following Braintree Town’s relegation from the National League last season, the 26-year-old moved to Victoria Road on a two-year deal after a successful spell in Essex.

Previously turning out for National League South promotion chasers Chelmsford City, Cheek scored 19 goals in 44 league games for the Iron last season, and has continued to prove a nuisance this season with nine goals to his name so far.

Cheek reiterated his commitment to the club this week, and is well known to Blues fans, after he bagged a brace in the Daggers’ 4-0 win at the Swansway back in November.
