PREVIEW | Altrincham FC Women vs Chester FC Women

The league action continues for Chester FC Women this weekend, as they face an away trip to face 8th place Altrincham FC Women at Mersey Valley Sports Club.

The Blues unbeaten run stretched to five games in the league despite dropping two points in a 1-1 draw against local rivals Warrington Wolves last weekend. Chester took an early well deserved lead in the game but we’re shortly pegged beck four minutes later and were unable to find a winner and breakdown a stubborn Wolves defence that held strong.

The result saw Chester fail to score more than one goal in a league game for the first time since November (Chester 1-4 Poulton Vics). The Seals remain firmly in 4th place in the league following last weekend’s draw and still continue to trail 3rd place Poulton Vics by nine points but with three games in hand,

Sunday’s opponents Altrincham come into this weekend’s clash looking for their first win in three matches following back to back defeats in the league. The Manchester outfit currently find themselves in 8th place in the table having won four of their eighteen games in the league and accumulating sixteen points in the process.

Altrincham have two games remaining in the league including this weekend and with still six points on offer to play they could potentially finish as high as 5th with results elsewhere. Chester ran out convincing winners in the reverse fixture back in August, recording a comfortable opening day 4-0 victory and will be hoping for more of the same this weekend

“Frustrating is the way to sum up last weeks performance. For a lot of hard work and effort we lacked the composure needed to to really impose ourselves on the game. Naturally it’s disappointing when you don’t reach the performance levels we’re capable of. In our position in the league we’re in we’re we can focus on the development of the team.

“Our attention turns to Altrincham this weekend and we’ll be looking to put those points right. Emma Gray is back fit and in contention this weekend, who we missed last time out. Her movement and link up play is a big part of what we do. Regardless of the games result we need to make sure we continue on the right path to getting where we want to be”.
