Preview: Tamworth (a)
The Seals will look to get back to winning ways on Saturday at the home of the league leaders, Tamworth, who are 15 points clear at the top of the National League North.
In the reverse fixture back in December, Calum McIntyre’s men ran out 2-0 winners, with Elliott Whitehouse and Owen Windsor grabbing the goals.
It was one of Tamworth’s few poor days since being promoted from the Southern Premier Division Central last season as they have been flying, conceding just 3 goals in 14 matches since the turn of the year.
THE OPPOSITION
As previously mentioned, the Lambs could not have asked for a better first season back at this level, with Andy Peaks’ side sat in a great position to win the title, 15 points clear with seven games to go.
Tamworth have been incredibly solid at the back during this campaign, conceding just 22 goals in 39 matches, the best record in the division.
At the beginning of 2024, the Lambs went nine games without conceding, before a 1-0 defeat at Chorley on the 20th of February.
THE GAFFER
Andy Peaks has had incredible success with Tamworth since being appointed as manager in February 2022, going on a 14 game unbeaten run to ensure a mid table finish in the Southern Premier Division, before lifting the title in the following season.
The 53-year-old started his playing career at Northampton Town before a long stint at Rushden & Diamonds, where he made over 200 appearances.
In his coaching career he held roles at AFC Rushden & Diamonds, Long Buckby and Daventry Town before his first job as manager at Northampton Spencer FC.
ONE TO WATCH
Goalkeeper Jas Singh has been at the heart of Tamworth’s sublime defensive record all season, picking up 22 clean sheets and conceding at a rate of just 0.52 goals a game throughout the season.
The experienced stopper has featured for a number of clubs including Kidderminster Harriers, Solihull Moors and Gloucester City after starting his career at Shrewsbury Town.
Singh signed for the Lambs in 2018 and picked up the Player’s Player of the Year award back in the 2021/22 season.
