SENIOR CUP REPORT | Runcorn Linnets 1-1 Chester (Runcorn win 5-3 on pens)
The Blues were eliminated from the Cheshire Senior Cup this evening on penalties against Runcorn Linnets.
Calum McIntyre made ten changes from the weekend, including giving Academy midfielder Reece Daly a first senior start for the club.
Linnets hit the front on 16 minutes when Macauley Clifton’s effort from the right was half stopped by Harry Tyrer, but bounced kindly off the wet surface and across the line, despite Matty Williams’ best efforts.
Chester almost got level before the break when Jamie Morgan met Adam Thomas’ cross but saw his effort clip the crossbar and fly over.
Nevertheless they did get an equaliser with a quarter of an hour remaining as midfielder Joe Lynch cut on to his left foot and sent a fantastic strike into the top corner from 20 yards.
It was enough to send the game to penalties, but Lynch was to be the one denied by Danny Taberner from the spot, and the hosts scored all five of their attempts to advance to Round Two.
