TEAM OF THE DECADE | Matty McGinn completes the defence!

A left-back with an unbelievable goalscoring record, Matty McGinn finishes off the back four in our team.

In August 2011, Neil Young brought in the full back initially on a loan deal from Southport.

His seven-match temporary spell brought an incredible six goals, and his fine performances on the left side of the defence saw the Blues sign McGinn initially on a permanent 18-month deal.

That season was capped in style by Matty, as he scored the stunning goal against Northwich Victoria which sealed the Evo-Stik Premier title in front of 5,000 fans at the Deva.

He finished that season as joint top scorer, before impressing again in the Conference North as the Blues broke all records before them – McGinn winning his second title with the club.

He departed that summer of 2013, ending with a fantastic record of 84 games and 22 games for Chester FC. Even when he came back for the All-Stars fundraiser game in 2018, he looked like he’d never been away. Some player.
