TEAM OF THE DECADE | Ben Heneghan joins the defensive unit!

‘Ben Heneghan has won it for Chester, with the very last touch of the game!’

A 94th minute goal against fierce rivals Wrexham to win a Cross-Border Derby match alone might have been enough to see ‘Super Heneghan’ into the Team of the Decade.

But it is no surprise to us all that Ben continues to impress at much higher levels than Non-League.

Steve Burr snapped Heneghan up initially when the defender was a 20-year-old, at the beginning of the 2014-15 season.

He broke into the side as a right back, and it was from there he broke forward and smashed home his first senior goal. At the Deva, in front of the Harry Mac, to beat Wrexham 2-1.

He went on to score crucial goals in the FA Cup run that season, away at Stockport County and in the First Round upset at Southend too.

Another season of impressive performances at the back saw significant interest in Ben, and he departed CH1 one to go North to join Motherwell. He now plays for Premier League side Sheffield United, but currently on loan at Blackpool.

A modern-day Derby hero and a fantastic footballer still with many years ahead of him in the game.

Ben Heneghan is voted in as your right-back in the Chester FC Team of the Decade!
