Wythenshawe Town 1-1 Chester

Game five of pre-season finished level against a strong North West Counties Premier side in Wythenshawe Town.

Calum McIntyre’s second team of a busy 24 hour period saw only Reece Daly feature in both squads – being named on the bench at the Ericstan Stadium.

Just one Trialist featured in the team, with ten first teamers also starting. U17 forward Oskar Rosenblatt was named on the bench.

It was a quiet start to the game which finally came to life on 22 minutes when the Seals took the lead. Charlie Caton capitalised on a defensive error before driving forward at pace and burying his shot beyond Greg Hall for his third goal of pre-season.

Chester quickly almost doubled their advantage as Caton chested down for Elliott Whitehouse, who saw his volley bounce just wide of the far post.

At the other end, Danny Byrnes got his shot away and saw it go just wide of Wyll Stanway’s post, as the Blues went into the interval a goal to the good.

Early in the second half and it was Zak Goodson this time who went close. His curling effort struck the foot of the post before Hall did well to react and turn Kieran Coates’ effort on the rebound behind.

Wythenshawe then equalised just shy of the hour mark as a corner from the right was drifted in and met by the head of Louis Jeanne to make it 1-1.

Chester had a chance to restore their advantage but couldn’t hit the target as Joel Taylor’s dangerous cross was helped on by Whitehouse and turned wide by Iwan Murray.

Stanway was forced into a good reaction save from a corner before the full time whistle, as it ended all square in a physical and competitive encounter in front of a lively crowd.
