YOUTH CUP PREVIEW | Clitheroe vs Chester
The Young Blues begin another season of adventure in the FA Youth Cup this evening, with a trip to Clitheroe.
This game is the First Qualifying Round, with three victories required to make the First Round proper. Last season, starting in the Preliminary Round, Calum McIntyre’s side beat Sandbach, Marine, Wrexham and Hartlepool to make it through the qualifiers.
As far as achievements go, that was some feat. But they didn’t stop there, beating EFL side Barnsley 2-1 at the Deva in front of 600+ fans. Round Two saw them lose against Mansfield, but they still put in a brilliant battling display in a 2-0 loss.
Seven days ago, the scholars kicked off their National League Alliance season with a fantastic 2-1 win at York City.
However, tonight will be backs against the wall – not for the first time – for the academy. A stretched squad with injuries and other issues could see two 15-year-olds feature for the Under-18’s side.
The winners of this tie face a trip to Chorley in the Second Qualifying Round. Let’s hope it’s Calum and his young team. Come on you Blues!
