NEWS | The Vanarama First Four – Chester are in the spotlight!
League sponsors Vanarama have been busy assessing the season so far – and what’s to come!
Story so far…
The Blues still boast an unbeaten record albeit with three draws. A home win against Farsley Celtic saw their only maximum so far but fighting last-gasp equalisers against Kettering and Altrincham have shown the character the squad possesses.
From the dugout…
Joint-boss Bernard Morley thinks his side have some work to do but said he wants to use the positives to inspire them. “We’re four unbeaten, we want to take the positives. But we also want to get as many points on the board as we can,” he said.
Biggest result so far…
After putting themselves behind in games against Kettering and Altrincham through own goals, the mentality shown to bounce back and play until the final whistle has showcased the mentality within the squad which could bode well for the rest of the season.
Top performer…
George Waring’s encouraging early form in front of goal has given the fans something to shout about. He’ll be striving for even more as Akwasi Asante looks to force his way back into the team.
Stat attack…
League position: 8th
Home goals for: 3
Away goals for: 2
Home goals against: 2
Away goals against: 2
Top scorer: George Waring (2)
What the fans say…
Rio (@rio_doherty_cfc) has faith Chester will be just fine after their early results, saying, “the good thing for us is that we are still unbeaten and are yet to concede from open play.”
James Beeton (@JamescfcBeeton2) is feeling the love with the club’s management duo. “Glad we have them here @ChesterFC,” he took to Twitter to say, “Let’s get behind the gaffers and players.”
Next up…
Gloucester City are in town and they have lost just once on the road since early January. They’ve taken maximum points from their opening two away games including an impressive comeback win against Kidderminster midweek.
Their one to watch….
Joe Hanks is in fine form, but Fabien Robert is someone worth keeping an eye on. He showed last season how lethal he can be when given a sniff of a chance.
Last time out….
The last meeting was way back in 2013 when Tony Gray popped up after eight minutes to give Chester the lead before an own goal all but wrapped up a 2-0 in the first-half.
