Bucket collection for Cheshire firefighter

    A bucket collection to raise funds for an injured Cheshire firefighter will take place at Chester’s match against Macclesfield this bank holiday weekend.

    Vicki Griffiths, a mother of two and the sister of former Blues striker Tom Peers, has been left unable to move from the waist down after an accident at a gym.

    As well as coming to terms with her condition, Vicki, who is based in Birchwood, is trying to find the means to finance an extensive programme of home and car adaptations which are essential to accommodate her needs and enable her to look after her two children.

    Friends, family and her colleagues at Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service have already launched a series of fundraising initiatives to try and generate the thousands of pounds needed to make her home accessible.

    This has included one previous bucket collection at Chester’s friendly against Altrincham FC, Tom’s new club, which raised £422.

    Vicki’s colleagues at Chester Fire Station will be in attendance before the match on Monday August 28th at the Swansway Chester Stadium to raise funds and will be in the car park with their fire engine for children to have a look around! There will also be volunteers inside the ground collecting money before the match and at half time.

    Lynsey McVay, Service Delivery Manager at Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: “Vicki is a firefighter at Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service and was injured in an accident in a gym. She can’t feel anything from the waist down as a result, and the Service has been fundraising for her to raise the money to help her adapt her home and car.

    “We want to thank Chester FC and Macclesfield Town for their support in our fundraising efforts. Please give what you can to help support Vicki.”
