Chester vs Port Vale: Preview

    The Pre-Season schedule draws to a close…

…and we are getting ever closer to the brand new 2017-18 National League season! Final preparations take place at the Swansway Chester Stadium tomorrow – as the Blues host League Two side Port Vale. Jon McCarthy’s men put in a promising showing in last Saturday’s narrow defeat to Walsall; going down 2-1 after a late Mitch Candlin winner. Nyal Bell scored the Chester goal in style – crashing home a stunning volley.

A Chester FC XI also competed as part of the pre-season schedule on Wednesday – drawing 1-1 against Chester Nomads at Chester BHCC. Matty Waters scored the goal for the Blues.

    What about Port Vale?

The Valiants are preparing for life in League Two – following relegation from League One at the end of last season. They are managed by former Man City and Spurs midfielder Michael Brown – who took the job permanently at the end of the 2016-17 campaign. Brown immediately swooped to sign former Vale striker Tom Pope from Bury on a two-year deal; his first spell at the club seeing him bag 56 goals in 163 appearances. Chester Manager Jon McCarthy is also no stranger to Port Vale – having made over 100 appearances for the club across two spells.
